Super Eagles goalkeeper, Carl Ikeme, has expressed his happiness at making his debut for the team on Saturday.
Ikeme was handed his debut by Eagles
coach, Sunday Oliseh, in Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier
against Tanzania in Dar es Salaam after captain, Vincent Enyeama, could
not make the match due to personal reasons.
The Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper
was the team’s hero as he thwarted the Taifa Stars’ rampaging attacks on
more than one occasion.
Ikeme took to twitter after the match to express his joy.
“Great honour to make my debut for the
@NGSuperEagles,” he tweeted on Saturday. “Thanks to my family, friends
and fans for your support.”
“It was indeed a tough game but we managed to keep the Tanzanians at bay,” the 29-year-old told later told supersport.com.
“Playing in your first game for a team
like Nigeria is not easy because there are many expectations that
include fitting the big shoes left by Vincent Enyeama who has been
amazing for us.
“I am glad I kept a clean sheet and
wish to take time out to thank my team mates who have been amazing and
welcomed me from the moment I arrived.”
